Boys Basketball: Ben Moore, Bolingbrook down Lincoln-Way Central

Among Ben Moore’s many assets is his ability to post big numbers quietly.
The 6-foot-8 senior forward went about his business in workmanlike fashion Tuesday, finishing with 17 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals to lead Bolingbrook past visiting SouthWest Suburban Blue foe Lincoln-Way Central 44-29.
For a while, Central (8-12, 0-8) hung with the No. 3 Raiders (15-5, 6-2).
But Moore led the charge on both ends of the floor in an 11-0 run over the final seven minutes of the first half for a 21-11 lead at the break. The Knights got no closer than 26-18 in the second half.
“We go through too many of those droughts,” said Central coach Bob Curran, whose team made 1-of-13 shots in the second quarter. “We were getting good looks, too, in that cold streak. We knew they would score on us sooner or later. We had to hit our shots and play almost a perfect game to stay in it.”
“Their defense was packing it in,” Moore said. “It was tough. But then coach (Rob Brost) had us run some plays that got us going.
“Our defense was good all the way through. We like to switch defenses and keep ’em guessing like we did tonight.”
Brad Bass, Central’s 6-6 junior center, scored seven points and 6-5 Ronnie Dunlap added six.
For Bolingbrook, which kept pace in the Blue race, guards Prentiss Nixon and Kendall Guyton scored seven apiece.
“Our defense was solid the whole game,” Brost said. “Once we made the commitment to get the ball in the lane, either on the drive or with the pass, good things happened.
“I give them credit. Bob’s teams are well coached. They hung with us for a reason. What I liked is that we increased the lead in the second half and took care of the ball to protect the lead.”
