High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Jan. 31, 2013

Girls Basketball

No. 3 Bolingbrook 73, Joliet West 28: Amarah Coleman contributed 15 points and nine assists for visiting Bolingbrook (18-5, 12-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Joliet West dropped to 6-17, 3-9.

No. 5 Lincoln-Way East 51, Lincoln-Way Central 31: Kara Krolicki netted 16 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to boost visiting Lincoln-Way East (18-7, 9-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Sisters Meaghan and Claire McMahon added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Griffins. Lincoln-Way Central fell to 9-14, 4-8.

No. 6 Coal City 51, Westmont 28: Nicole Borgetti finished with 14 points to power visiting Coal City (21-5, 8-2) in the Interstate Eight. Donjeta Shabani (6 rebounds) and Emily Halliday chipped in 10 points apiece for the Coalers.

Lisle 38, No. 7 Peotone 30: Caitlyn Crawford scored eight points and Kayla Paeth added seven for visiting Peotone (19-8, 8-2) in the Interstate Eight.

Tinley Park 46, No. 8 Lemont 44: Kim Jerantowski’s 19 points were the most for visiting Lemont (13-12, 7-5) in the South Suburban Blue.

Lincoln-Way North 55, No. 9 Lincoln-Way West 33: Valen Manns totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots to pace visiting Lincoln-Way North (21-4, 10-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Lincoln-Way West dropped to 11-12, 5-6.

No. 10 Seneca 56, Reed-Custer 51 (OT): Chelsie McCormick scored 13 points for visiting Seneca (13-15, 7-4) in the Interstate Eight. Caitlyn Welch had 25 points and eight rebounds for Reed-Custer (8-17, 2-9), while Allison Willis added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Benet 71, Providence 50: Alex Shermulis and Alyssa Jurges scored 16 points apiece for visiting Providence (11-15, 1-6) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Lockport 58, Joliet Central 36: Naomi Mayes and Anna Novak finished with 16 points apiece to power visiting Lockport (10-12, 5-7) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Gina Ramirez led Joliet Central (4-22, 0-12) with 12 points.

Tri-Point 58, Gardner-South Wilmington 54: Chelsea Schultz totaled 22 points to lead visiting Gardner-South Wilmington (10-16, 7-5) in the River Valley.

Men’s Basketball

Indianapolis 71, Lewis 64: Ryan Jackson’s 15 points and five assists led the way for visiting Lewis (11-7, 5-5) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Women’s Basketball

Lewis 78, Indianapolis 75 (2 OTs): Labrenthia Murdock (16 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career to aid visiting Lewis (15-3, 8-2) in the GLVC. Jess Reinhart led the Flyers with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
