It wasn’t the start Seneca had in mind after an exuberant pregame on Senior Night, but the Fighting Irish had the ending they wanted.
Seneca fell behind 8-0 Friday night to Westmont, rallied in the second quarter and increased the lead in the third period to earn a 60-43 Interstate Eight victory.
“We definitely started slow, not how we wanted,’’ guard Peyton Schrag said. “We picked it up defensively, and that led to transition points and got us going on offense.’’
Seneca (21-4, 9-1) outscored Westmont 18-10 in the third quarter to go ahead 41-29.
Schrag (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Conlan Callahan (14 points, 6 rebounds) each had four points in the third quarter. Brian Bergeson finished with 10 points.
Seneca responded with a 13-0 run aided by several Westmont turnovers after the Fighting Irish trailed 12-3 early in the game.
“End of the first quarter, through the second and midway through the third, we played some fantastic basketball,’’ Seneca coach Russell Witte said.
Jean Pietrzak led Westmont (13-11, 6-4) with 17 points and six rebounds. Daniel Dwyer had nine points.
