Boys Basketball: Bolingbrook succumbs to Homewood-Flossmoor

Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said he would take what he saw Friday night “10,000 times over Tuesday.”
His Raiders, after losing to Lockport on Tuesday, suffered their second SouthWest Suburban Blue setback of the week 70-59 at Homewood-Flossmoor. But this time, despite being stung by injuries, No. 3 Bolingbrook battled the Vikings tooth and nail.
In fact, consecutive baskets by 6-foot-8 senior Ben Moore gave the Raiders (16-7, 7-4) a 57-56 lead with 4:27 left.
But H-F’s 6-9 Lamar Wofford-Humphrey (career-high 20 points, 10 rebounds) went off the rest of the way, helping the Vikings (17-5, 10-1) outscore Bolingbrook 14-2 down the stretch.
“It’s tough to play a team like H-F when you’re down two of your top six players,” Brost said of early injuries to Kendall Guyton and Josh Dillingham. “But that’s no excuse. They beat us, and we could have beaten them.
“I love my team. I told them I wouldn’t trade the team that played tonight for anything. We played hard and together. If we continue to play like this, we’ll be fine.”
With the game barely a minute old, Guyton flew in for one of his patented dunk. But H-F’s Thaddeus Little, in a clean play, clipped him and both went down hard. Brost said Guyton “had some bleeding, I’m not sure where.” Little suffered a dislocated toe which may be broken.
Dillingham sprained his ankle shortly after replacing Guyton, who attempted to return once but quickly exited for good.
He was taken to the hospital at halftime. Dillingham did not return.
Moore scored 17 points and sophomore guard Prentiss Nixon added 15, including 13 in the second half, for Bolingbrook.
“I knew I was going against Ben Moore and I felt I had to raise my game to another level,” Wofford-Humphrey said. “And Prentiss Nixon, he’s really going to be a good player if he keeps shooting like that and taking to the basket like he did.”
