The 5-foot-10 starting senior guard sees himself as a shooter more than anything, especially from long range. Modiest’s strength is from behind the three-point line, where he is shooting 44 percent, ranking fourth in the Joliet area. Modiest also sees his perimeter defense as a strength, too. He believes he’s having his best season to date.
What are you most happy with?
I like how we never give up. We play hard through the whole game and we always try to win.
Is there a memorable game you’ve had so far this season?
When we played Joliet Central, we were undefeated against them for our high school career. It shows us who has bragging rights in this city.
How can you compare West-Central games to those against other opponents?
I say they are all pretty intense, because it is a tough conference to play in (SouthWest Suburban Blue). There’s more anticipation associated with playing Central.
How old were you when you started playing basketball?
Since I was 3 or 4. I just picked up the ball and my mom told me I liked it. I used to shoot on those little tyke rims.
If you had the athletic ability to do any sport, what would it be?
Football, mostly because I like to watch it.
What was the craziest thing you wanted to be when you grew up?
Probably President of the United States.
What are your college plans?
I got accepted to a few schools, just for academics, and I have a couple of athletic looks, too. For academics, I’ve been accepted to Illinois State and Southern Illinois. For basketball, I’m getting looks from Marian University and Carthage College.
