The Joliet Slammers (14-22) dropped a Frontier League doubleheader Thursday to the host Rockford Aviators, falling 4-2 and 2-0.
In Game 1, Rockford scored all four runs in the second inning. Joliet made it 4-1 when Kyle Maunus scored on Marquis Riley’s fielder’s choice. Nick Akins cut the deficit to two in the sixth inning with a two-out solo home run, but the Slammers (14-22) would get no closer.
The nightcap saw the Aviators’ Seafth Howe (1-3) outduel Joliet’s Matt Dillon (0-1). Howe allowed no runs with four strikeouts over six frames. Dillon was also good for the Slammers, pitching six innings allowing two runs on eight hits.
The two runs for the Aviators (9-26) came in the second inning on a two-run single by Tyler Smith.
