Baseball: Slammers top CornBelters 7-6 in 10 innings

NORMAL — The Joliet Slammers let a six-run lead over the Normal CornBelters slip away before recovering for a 7-6 Frontier League win in 10 innings Wednesday night.
The victory was the second in as many nights for Joliet (20-27) over Normal (25-22).
With the game knotted at 6 in the 10th, the Slammers struck. Marquis Riley reached second on throwing error by Normal shortstop Pat McKenna. Michael Wing singled to score Riley.
Brett Zawacki (3-5) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Justin Erasmus remained perfect this season with his 11th save in as many chances.
The Slammers started the scoring in the first. Niko Vasquez led off the game with a double and scored on Wing’s double.
Seth Schwindenhammer led off second inning for Joliet by drawing a walk and Kyle Maunus followed with an RBI double. With one out, Ben Hewett made it 3-0 by singling in Maunus. Vasquez walked ahead of Riley, who smacked a three-run home run to make it 6-0.
After Riley’s homer, the Joliet offense was held hitless until the eighth inning.
Normal scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth. Tyler Shover had the big blow in the sixth for the CornBelters, a three-run homer.
