Mount Carmel Invitational: Medalist Ricky Costello carded a 2-under 70 in leading Providence (307) to first place in the 16-team field at Water’s Edge in Worth. Kevin McEneany added a 79 for the Celtics, who also received 80s from Mickey Brick and Will McCabe. Oak Park (318) was second, followed by Brother Rice (323), Homewood-Flossmoor (323) and Loyola (327).
Marist Invitational: Medalist Kelly Sterling registered a 3-over 76 as Lincoln-Way East (381) edged Marist (383) and Providence (388) for first place at Midlothian Country Club. Nazareth (396) and Marian Catholic (398) rounded out the top five in the 10-team event. Marist’s Ashley Kay (86) was the runner-up, with the next four spots occupied by Marian Catholic’s Nina Nicpon (88), Lincoln-Way East’s Karoline Pirko (90), Nazareth’s Kasey Schaffer (91) and Providence’s Alyssa Newling (91).
Grand View Tournament: Kate McIlvanie had 23 kills and 26 digs on the day as St. Francis (1-3) lost to Bethel (Ind.) 25-16, 25-19, 29-27 and defeated Taylor (Ind.) 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 in Des Moines, Iowa. The Saints also received 44 digs from Breanne Shaw and 40 assists from Brittany Showalter.
St. Francis 1, Missouri Baptist 0: Liceth Robles’ goal in the 80th minute sparked host St. Francis in its season opener. Gabriela Ramirez made five saves for the Saints.
