Homewood-Flossmoor 49, Joliet Central 0: Malek Harden rushed for 57 yards on 13 carries for host Joliet Central (0-4, 0-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.
ASICS Preview: Lincoln-Way Central (9-1) won all three of its matches, the last a 25-15, 23-25, 25-23 decision over Crystal Lake South in the championship at Mother McAuley. Mariel Leibovitz dished out 122 assists in the two-day tournament for the Knights, whose other standouts included Maria Brown (48 kills, 34 digs) and Jacqueline Langer (44 kills, 33 digs, 10 blocks).
Wheaton Classic: Kate Federico had nine assists and three kills for Plainfield North (18-2), which lost to Benet 25-9, 25-18 in the title round. Lemont (12-4) captured the Silver Division crown by topping Wheaton North 25-16, 25-17.
Lincoln-Way West 2, Lincoln-Way East 1: Dan Petron and Kevin Staniszewski registered goals for Lincoln-Way West (7-2-2) in the championship at Lincoln-Way North. Lincoln-Way East fell to 5-3-1.
Lincoln-Way Central 2, Joliet West 2: Jacob Lysik and Tyler Massa scored for host Lincoln-Way Central. Oscar Zuniga had both assists for the Knights.
Plainfield Central 2, Lake Forest Academy 0: Miguel Sanchez and Miguel Duran netted goals for Plainfield Central (6-2-3) in the match at Lyons.
Green Wedge Cup: The Southwest Suburban Conference defeated the Southwest Prairie Conference 21-6 at Green Garden, where play was conducted under the modified Ryder Cup format. Sandburg’s Nick Adduce was the medalist after carding a 67, which was two strokes better than Joliet Township co-op teammates Trent Wallace and John Miller. Minooka’s Jason Chobar (71) came in third.
Celtic Swing Invitational: Lincoln-Way East’s Kelly Sterling led all golfers with a 74 at Broken Arrow. Lockport (396) edged Lincoln-Way Central by two strokes in winning the Silver Division title. Hinsdale Central (322) took top honors in the Gold ahead of runner-up Lyons (341) and third-place occupant Lincoln-Way East (367).
Lockport Invitational: Rachel Polke and Emily McCann won the Flight B doubles crown as Lockport Maroon (30) tied St. Ignatius for first place in the eight-team tournament. Brit Kupiec and Bethany Plebanek were second in Flight A doubles for the Porters, who also produced the runners-up in Flight B doubles courtesy of Misa Coladepietro and Mary Kate Burchett. Sarah Holmes and Kendall Junger took third in Flight A doubles for Plainfield North (14), which finished fifth.
Boys Cross Country
Richard Spring Invitational: Plainfield South’s Dan Lathrop (14 minutes, 35 seconds) was second in the 3-mile race at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. His effort lifted the Cougars (443 points) to 12th place in the 63-team meet hosted by Peoria Notre Dame.
Illiana Christian Invitational: Ben Walczak (15:56) finished third on the 3-mile course in guiding Lincoln-Way East (40) to second place at North Creek Meadow in Lansing. Illiana Christian (24) was the champion of the 13-team event.
Dave Brady Invitational: Romeoville (279) was 11th out of 18 teams in the meet hosted by Argo. The top runner for the Spartans was Mike Samuelson (16:58.5), who finished 35th in the 2.9-mile race at Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs.
Minooka Flight Invitational: Lockport’s Will Giroux (15:38) was fifth and Minooka’s Gabe Ceballos (16:08) eighth in Flight 1 – the top race at Channahon Community Park. Minooka (59) took eighth and Lockport (62) ninth in the 19-team meet.
Mustang Run: Bolingbrook (83) took third behind Naperville Central (39) and host Downers Grove South (59) in the 11-team field. The Raiders were led by Johnathon Cook (15:59.4) and Nehemiah Rambo (16:00.5), who were eighth and ninth, respectively, on the 3-mile course.
Girls Cross Country
Dave Brady Invitational: Heidi Killinger (19:37.6) and Jenn Whitney (19:41.8) were fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 2.9-mile race as Lincoln-Way Central (99) finished third behind Lyons (26) and Morton (95). Joliet Central (155) came in fourth and Plainfield Central (168) fifth in the 17-team meet.
Minooka Flight Invitational: Minooka (23) was third to Wheaton Warrenville South (17) and Hoffman Estates (19) among the 16 squads. The Indians received second-place finishes from Ashley Tutt (18:16) in Flight 3, Kaitlyn Chetney (19:12) in Flight 5 and Mackenzie Callahan (19:22) in Flight 6. Lemont (60) finished eighth and Plainfield North (70) ninth.
Mustang Run: Taylor Cogdell (20:32.9) was 23rd in the 3-mile race as Plainfield East (142) finished fifth out of seven teams at Downers Grove South. Vivan Medrano (20:3.7) added a 24th-place finish for the Bengals.
St. Francis triangular: Leah Fuessel and Anne-Christine Tompkins each won twice in singles and doubles as St. Francis defeated Purdue-Calumet 8-1 and St. Ambrose 9-0.
Lewis 20-25-26-25, Truman State 25-18-24-21: Kim Vertin had 16 kills and 17 digs to lead host Lewis (5-4) in its GLVC opener. Leigh Barea added 42 assists for the Flyers.
Olivet Nazarene Tournament: Danielle Conrad put up 41 assists as St. Francis (10-5) bested Indiana Tech 25-14, 26-24, 27-25 and St. Ambrose 25-20, 25-17, 25-14. Breanne Shaw tacked on 57 digs for the Saints, who went 3-1 in the weekend event.
