Football: Plainfield East upends Minooka 37-27

After allowing an opening-drive touchdown to Minooka (2-3, 1-2), Plainfield East (4-1, 2-1) scored the next 23 points, including a safety and an interception return for a score and led 23-7 after one quarter. The Bengals led 30-21 at halftime and extended their lead to 37-21 with 10:10 remaining in the game.
Plainfield East defensive back Jordan Plantz jumped an Indians wide receiver route for an interception and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown that extended the Plainfield East lead to 23-7 with 30 seconds left in the first quarter.
Plainfield East quarterback Cole Kotopka completed 19-of-37 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Kotopka also had 14 rushes for 65 yards and a score.
BY THE NUMBERS
Plainfield East outgained Minooka 417-274 in total offense. The Bengals defense forced four turnovers. Minooka running back Nathan Gunn had 19 rushes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
