Football: Providence blanks Gordon Tech 42-0

Providence (3-2) scored touchdowns on all six of its first-half possessions and cruised in the Catholic League crossover in New Lenox. The Celtics averaged 11 yards per play in the first half while holding Gordon Tech (2-3) to an average of 1 yard per play.
Erik Carroll intercepted Gordon Tech quarterback Gary Anish on the third play of the game, setting up the first of two touchdown runs for Dominic Lagone (9 carries, 74 yards), a 2-yarder. The Celtics never looked back.
The entire Providence defense, including the second and third units, dominated all night, holding the Rams to 84 yards of total offense.
BY THE NUMBERS
Providence finished with 240 yards of total offense. Justin Hunniford (6-of-10, 64 yards) threw TD passes of 1 and 21 yards to Miles Boykin, and Sam Abraham tossed a 23-yard TD to Nate Vejvoda. Brandon Denler had a 5-yard TD run. For Gordon Tech, Anish ran 22 times for 31 yards and Justin Fedoruk had a 31-yard catch for Gordon Tech.
