1. Lockport will be a major contender in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. The Porters got a huge win Sunday at Toyota Park, knocking off Lincoln-Way East 2-1. They opened Blue play Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over a surging Bolingbrook squad. It was Lockport’s fifth straight win. The Porters head to the Rock Island Invitational this weekend after a Thursday contest against Joliet Central.
2. Saturday’s contest between Plainfield Central and Plainfield North will be a major showdown. The match, set for 1 p.m. at North, will go a long way toward determining if Central can keep its seven-year reign atop the Southwest Prairie going. North stayed in the conference race with a huge win over Oswego and a victory over Plainfield East. Central must first overcome a hurdle Thursday at Plainfield South.
3. Lemont is rounding into form. The Indians had a big week, knocking off Eisenhower 2-1 on Saturday behind goals from John Bermele and Eric Whatley, and topping Shepard 2-0 on Tuesday as Teddy Trifunovski scored twice. After a Sept. 19 loss to T.F. United, Lemont was 3-6-3. The Indians since have won four straight and have kept their South Suburban Blue title hopes alive with a 6-2 league mark.
