Saints preview: St. Francis (2-2) heads into Mid-States Football Association Mideast action after splitting its first four non-league games. “Bottom line, right now, is we’re 0-0 in our league,” Saints coach Joe Curry said. “We have to learn from the mistakes we made in the first four games and move forward. The first game in conference is always important for us.” ... The Saints are 2-1 on the road this season and have beaten Concordia twice since the Cardinals’ program was formed in 2010. ... The Saints defense allowed just two offensive touchdowns in Saturday’s 37-25 loss to St. Xavier last week. That puts points of emphasis on special teams and the offense to sustain drives. ... WR Troy Torrence is fourth in the country in receiving yards. ... QB E.J. White leads the nation in total offense with 1,730 rushing and passing yards.
Concordia preview: In its third year of existence, Concordia (1-3) does not have a home field and has just one win in 25 tries. Lonnie Pries is the third coach in four years and comes to Concordia from another Concordia University, this one in River Forest. ... The Cardinals have been outscored 137-14 in three losses. A 35-21 win over Alfred State gave the program its first victory. ... QB Tyler Steele has completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 816 yards and six touchdowns. ... WR D’Karas Fields leads the team in catches (23), receiving yards (281) and receiving touchdowns (3). ... The Cardinals have rushed for 24 yards this year. ... LB Takari Johnson leads the nation in total tackles with 68.
