ASICS Challenge: Lincoln-Way East (10-9) lost all three of its contests, the last a 25-21, 25-23 decision to Hillcrest (S.C.) in the Gold Division seventh-place match. Taylor Nirchi paced the Griffins with 97 assists and 26 service points on the day. Macie Lawrence tacked on 77 digs and Jessica Lindsey added 50 kills in the event hosted by Mother McAuley. Mary Murphy compiled 70 assists over three matches to guide Joliet Catholic (13-7), which finished 18th after losing to Nazareth 25-21, 18-25, 25-23 in the Bronze Division final. Mallory Krzysciak (27 service points, 40 digs) and Julia Shemaitis (32 kills) also starred for the Angels.
Lake Forest Invitational: Elexis Coleman totaled 39 kills on the day for Joliet West (11-13), which lost to Carmel 25-14, 25-13 in the championship. Shannon Doran added 59 assists for the Tigers, who won three of five matches, including a 25-17, 23-25, 25-22 decision over the host school in the semifinal round.
IMSA Invitational: Kelsey Frain’s 33 kills and 31 digs ignited Joliet Central (9-14) to a fifth-place finish in the 12-team tournament. Emily Eichholzer tacked on 21 kills and 25 digs for the Steelmen, who won three times, including a 25-17, 20-25, 27-25 marathon over Ottawa Marquette.
Bradley 4, Lincoln-Way Central 1: Oscar Zuniga scored an unassisted goal for visiting Lincoln-Way Central (4-7-5, 0-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Lincoln-Way East 5, Andrew 0: Alan Hernandez netted a hat trick to lead visiting Lincoln-Way East (8-4-2, 2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Sean Sibley added two goals and an assist for the Griffins.
Bolingbrook 1, Joliet Central 0: Samuel Jimenez’s goal with seven minutes remaining sparked host Bolingbrook (9-8, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Colin Magdiarz made three saves in recording his fifth shutout.
Lemont 2, Lincoln-Way North 1: Teddy Trifunovski provided the winning goal to pace visiting Lemont (9-6-2). Eric Whatley also scored for the Indians.
Streator 4, Coal City 0: Chase Mincey stopped nine shots for visiting Coal City (3-12-1).
Lemont Shootout: Lincoln-Way East (305) won top honors at Broken Arrow behind medalist Matt Contey, who defeated Oak Forest’s Dave Karwoski on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after both had posted rounds of 74. Metea Valley’s Jeremy Forbes and Lincoln-Way East’s Dan Olivieri were each one stroke off the pace. Downers Grove South (310) was second in the 12-team meet, followed by St. Viator (322), Nazareth (322) and Oak Forest (323).
LaSalle-Peru Invitational: Lockport (301) was third and Lincoln-Way Central (307) fourth in the 11-team Large Division at Seneca’s Oak Ridge in LaSalle. The top area individual was Lockport’s Gehrig Hollatz, who carded a 72 in finishing fifth. His teammate, Luke Trent, and Lincoln-Way Central’s Tony Kestel carded 74s in tying for sixth. Trevor Lines (78) was fourth in propelling Morris (343) to fourth place in the 10-team Small/Medium Division.
Boys Cross Country
LaSalle County Invitational: Seneca’s Ross McCormick was second after completing the 3-mile race in 16 minutes, 19.9 seconds. As a team, the Irish (115) were fifth in the six-team meet.
Peoria Central Invitational: Johnny Principato (15:51.50) came in 53rd for Plainfield Central (827), which finished 28th out of 52 teams at Peoria’s Detweiller Park.
Girls Cross Country
LaSalle County Invitational: Seneca (34) won the five-team event thanks to Caroline Collet (19:31) and Sarah Cameron (19:41.4), who were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3-mile race.
St. Charles North Invitational: Minooka (92) finished third behind Hinsdale Central (71) and Geneva (87) in the 15-team meet. The Indians’ top runner was Ashley Tutt (18:19.9), who came in fourth.
Falcon Classic: Lockport (82) took 11th in the 33-team invitational hosted by Wheaton North. The Porters’ top finisher was Karlee Stortz (18:59.9), who was eighth in Flight 4. Alicia Ary (19:41.2) came ninth in Flight 6 and Morgan Bollinger (18:18.1) was 10th in Flight 1, the top race of the meet.
Peoria Central Invitational: Plainfield North’s Rachel Lau (18:23.14) was 20th in the race at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. Overall, the Tigers (471) finished 16th out of 49 teams.
Men’s Cross Country
Greater Louisville Classic: Mike Blaszczyk (24:53) was 14th in the 5-mile race in helping St. Francis finish ninth in the 32-team meet.
Women’s Cross Country
Division III Pre-National Invitational: Lewis’ Amanda Farrough (22:15.20) crossed the finish line third in the 3.7-mile contest in Hanover, Ind. Her performance helped the Flyers (73) finish third in the 18-team event.
Greater Louisville Classic: St. Francis came in 20th out of 31 squads, the Saints’ top runner being Hilary Halford (18:11), who was 49th in the 3.1-mile contest.
Lewis 25-28-25, Illinois-Springfield 10-26-17: Leigh Barea passed out 35 assists and Alexis Davito drilled 14 kills to spearhead host Lewis (10-4, 6-0) in the Great Lakes Valley.
CCAC Crossover Tournament: Danielle Conrad (27 assists) and Megan Mowery (15 kills) were among the standouts for St. Francis (15-6), which defeated Illinois Tech 25-14, 25-15, 25-18 and Judson 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 in Elgin.
