St. Charles East Mizuno Cup: Taylor Nirchi chalked up 102 assists in three matches for Lincoln-Way East (15-11), which fell 15-25, 25-17, 25-21 to Naperville North in the fifth-place match. Jessica Lindsey added 48 kills for the Griffins and Macie Lawrence chipped in 68 digs. Lincoln-Way Central (18-6) took 11th after losing to Edwardsville 25-16, 28-26. Mariel Leibovitz finished with 53 assists on the day for the Knights, who also received 21 kills and 20 digs from Maria Brown. Mary Murphy totaled 43 assists in three contests for Joliet Catholic (16-11), which finished 14th. Madeline Grimm (21 kills, 16 service points) and Mallory Krzysciak (27 digs, 18 service points) also starred for the Angels.
Huntley Invitational: Joliet Central (11-19) defeated Harlem 25-18, 25-17 to win the Bronze Division championship. Kelsey Frain had 33 kills and 43 digs for the Steelmen, who bested Streamwood 29-27, 25-15 in the semifinal round. Hana Cromer tacked on 63 assists for the winners.
Waubonsie Valley Invitatiional
Lemont 3, Hinsdale South 0: Teddy Trifunovski provided one goal and one assist for host Lemont (11-8-2).
East Suburban Catholic Tournament: Sisters Maggie and Kelly Ruane took second at top-seeded doubles in leading Providence (45) to a share of fourth place in the 10-team meet won by Benet (78). Mary Beth Galick and Liz Eggen (No. 2 doubles) added a fourth-place showing for the Celtics. Joliet Catholic (23) came in ninth.
Boys Cross Country
De La Salle Invitational: Medalist Steve Sismelich (16 minutes, 23 seconds) boosted Providence (56) to the team title ahead of runner-up Eisenhower (64) and third-place Bremen (74). Eisenhower’s Ken Palmer (17:04) was second, followed by Providence’s Michael Davis (17:04), Crete-Monee’s Bryce Stluka (17:06) and Leo’s Sirlaurence King (17:09).
Sterling Invitational: Gabe Ceballos (16 minutes, 5 seconds) was 20th in the 3-mile race in spearheading Minooka (350) to 15th in the 25-team field. Plainfield North (394) was 17th and Joliet Catholic (682) finished 24th.
Girls Cross Country
De La Salle Invitational: Providence (24) produced the top three runners in winning first place. Shepard (51) and Bremen (76) were the closest pursuers to the Celtics, who were led by Clare O’Donnell (20:04), Rebecca Tompkins (20:14) and Kelly Schultz (20:16). Shepard’s Alondra Delfin (20:27) and Crete-Monee’s Chasity Powell (21:18) rounded out the top five.
Sterling Invitational: Minooka (74) won the 25-team meet as Ashley Tutt (18:00) finished third in the 3-mile race. MacKenzie Callahan (18:50) added a 15th-place showing for the Indians.
Girls Swimming & Diving
Andrew Invitational: Kim Bernhard won the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.24) and 200 individual medley (2:14.30) in pacing Lincoln-Way Central (122) to a sixth-place showing out of 13 teams. Kristi Howe added a victory in the 200 free (2:26.45) for the Knights. Allison Chambers was tops in the 50 free (30.45) to propel Joliet West co-op (69), which came in ninth, one spot behind Lincoln-Way West (77). Glenbard West/South (254) was the team champion.
Hinsdale Central Diving Invitational: Lincoln-Way East (33) finished second thanks to Rachel Criscione, who was runner-up in the relay event (259.35 points) and college event (194.55). Hinsdale Central (60) won first place in the 12-team meet.
Roosevelt 4, St. Francis 0: Adham Elshalakany and James Thorpe combined to make four saves for St. Francis (2-6, 1-2) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Toyota Park.
USTA/ITA Small School National Championships: Lewis’ Armand Levandi lost 6-3, 7-5 to Azusa Pacific’s Jan Meyer in the third-place match in Fort Myers, Fla.
Women’s Cross Country
Lucian Rosa Invitational: Amanda Farrough (18:14.7) was 11th in the 3.1-mile race as Lewis (184) finished seventh out of 25 teams at Wisconsin-Parkside.
St. Francis 4, Roosevelt 1: Liceth Robles and Alex Truhlar each scored twice to power St. Francis (8-3, 3-1) in the CCAC contest at Toyota Park.
USTA/ITA Small School National Championships: Lucie Sipkova of California (Pa.), swept Lewis’ Zsofia Lanstiak 6-4, 6-1 in the fifth-place match in Fort Myers, Fla.
Lewis 25-25-26, Bellarmine 19-17-24: Kim Vertin recorded 13 kills and Leigh Barea added 34 assists to vault host Lewis (12-5, 8-1) in the GLVC.
St. Francis Classic: Mallory Frankovich posted a team-best 22 kills for St. Francis (19-8), which beat Siena Heights 25-17, 25-19, 25-10 and lost to Madonna 25-21, 25-11, 25-18. Danielle Conrad tacked on 40 assists for the Saints.
