Football: Romeoville keeps playoff hopes alive

Romeoville kept its playoff hopes alive with a Southwest Prairie Conference win over visiting Oswego East (5-3, 3-3). The Spartans (4-4, 3-3) must win at Minooka next Friday to make the playoffs.
Romeoville quarterback Kelvin Jones hit receiver Charles Hunter with a 19-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-9 with 4:39 to play in the third quarter to give the Spartans a 21-6 lead.
The Spartans’ defense. It sacked Wolves quarterback Tyler Kennedy six times. Romeoville linebacker Steven Derdzinski recovered two fumbles, intercepted a pass and recorded a sack. The Spartans held the Wolves scoreless inside the red zone on three straight possessions in the second half.
