Football: Plano whips up on Wilmington 43-22

In the battle of Interstate Eight champions, Large division winner Plano (7-1, 4-1) built a 29-0 lead in the third quarter and held on for the crossover road victory. Senior Night and a halftime ceremony honoring Wilmington’s 1973 undefeated team were the highlights for the Wildcats (7-1, 5-0).
The second quarter. Plano scored two touchdowns and recovered two Wilmington fumbles in the period to take control. Wilmington had three turnovers in the first half and trailed 22-0.
Plano wide receiver Javon Montgomery had touchdown receptions of 78 and 23 yards.
BY THE NUMBERS
Montgomery opened the scoring on the long screen pass and Weslye Brown had a 22-yard TD run before Montgomery’s 23-yarder with 2:55 left in the half. Tony Elias returned a Wilmington fumble 25 yards for a 29-0 third-quarter lead. A 63-yard run by Shaun Wollenweber gave Plano a 43-6 cushion late in the third quarter.
