1. The Class 3A Metea Valley Sectional has been a minefield for area teams. All four Plainfield schools lost in Tuesday’s regional semifinals, with Central falling 2-1 to Aurora East, South 2-1 to Batavia and East 6-1 to Naperville North. The biggest surprise was at Geneva, where fourth-seeded Plainfield North fell 3-2 to Oswego. The loss doesn’t erase a great season for the Tigers, which won the Southwest Prairie for the first time and finished 15-3-3.
2. Jason Silvar is following in his brother’s footsteps. The Romeoville junior’s brother, Johnathan, scored 19 goals to earn All-Area honors last season and now is playing at Lewis. Jason had a breakout year as one of the Spartans’ top table-setters. He had six assists to go with five goals. Romeoville, which lost 6-1 to Thornton co-op in Wednesday’s playoff opener, closed the regular season with five straight wins.
3. The Lincoln-Ways may be the area’s best chance for playoff success. West and East each advanced to regional finals with Tuesday wins. The Warriors opened with a 6-0 rout of Rich South and should contend in the 2A sectional they host. A sectional semifinal match-up with Lemont could be in the works. East got by Andrew 4-3 to set up a regional final against either Lincoln-Way Central or Bloom.
