Oswego 55, Plainfield Central 7
Oswego (7-2, 7-0) scored on seven of its first eight possessions and quickly dashed any ideas of a Plainfield Central upset bid. Oswego led 14-0 after one quarter and 49-0 at halftime. For the second consecutive year, Oswego coach Brian Cooney and his Panthers celebrate an undefeated Southwest Prairie season.
THE TURNING POINT
Oswego starting quarterback Steven Frank (7-of-15, 103 yards, 3 TDs) connected with tight end CJ Brown (2 catches, 29 yards, 2 TDs) for a 15-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead with 9:30 left in the first quarter and the Panthers never looked back.
Oswego running back Tyler Walsh had 21 carries for 178 yards and scored three TDs. Walsh eclipsed 1,000 yards (1,010) for the season on his 20-yard touchdown run as time expired in the first half.
BY THE NUMBERS
Plainfield Central (0-9, 0-7) managed just 16 total yards of offense in the first half compared with 350 total yards for Oswego. The Panthers defense intercepted Central quarterback Matthew Gurke three times and converted all three into scores.
“It was good to get the win, come out healthy and now we can look forward to the playoffs. Whether it’s in 7A or 8A we’ll prep our kids the best we can and go from there.” — Cooney
