A four-touchdown performance by running back Joshua Harris and a stout defense assured visiting Plainfield South (6-3, 5-2) of a spot in the state playoffs. Plainfield East (6-3, 4-3) clinched its first-ever berth with last week’s Southwest Prairie Conference victory over Plainfield Central.
In the third quarter, South scored 17 points to take a 31-0 lead. Harris had two TD runs in the period and Matthew Imburgia kicked a 27-yard field goal.
In only three quarters, Harris had 33 carries for 307 yards and TD runs of 3, 53, 21 and 43 yards behind the offensive line of Richard Kelly, Joseph Miggins, Nathan Karas, Thomas Grady and Eric Aguirre.
BY THE NUMBERS
East quarterback Cole Kotopka was only 6-of-27 for 101 yards and two interceptions. Jake Mayon was held to 36 yards on 10 carries. South’s defensive front featured JC Godin, Axel Gonzalez, Chad Willison and Jacob Cozzi. Daniel Saracco and Zachary Tuzak had interceptions.
“We played with a sense of urgency because we did not want to be on the couch at home watching the playoffs knowing we should be in there.’’ — Harris
