Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Regional
Lincoln-Way West 2, Crete-Monee 1 (SO)
Tony Prospero’s save in the last round of the penalty-kick shootout enabled Lincoln-Way West (14-7-3) to win the championship. Ian McGrath scored in regulation for the Warriors, who prevailed 4-3 in the shootout.
Class 2A Morris Regional
Morris 3, Streator co-op 1: Nick Borgstrom assisted on both goals by Salvador Villanueva as Morris (14-4-5) captured a berth in the sectional semifinal round. Ricardo Del Toro also scored for the Redskins.
Class 2A Providence Regional
Bremen 3, Providence 0: Alejandro Mendez scored twice for Bremen (19-4-1) in the championship. Providence finished 5-19.
Class 3A Lincoln-Way Central Regional
Lincoln-Way East 5, Bloom 2: Sean Sibley, Bryan Dillberg and Alan Hernandez were among the goal scorers for Lincoln-Way East (13-6-2) in the final.
Boys Cross Country
Class 1A Aurora Christian Regional: Harry McSteen (16:40) was seventh and Jeremy Adams (17:05) came in 11th to lead Joliet Catholic (93) to third place and a spot in the sectional meet.
Class 1A Bishop McNamara Regional: Peotone teammates Gabe Hartnett (17:06) and Kyle Jones (17:30) sealed at-large berths to the sectional meet after placing seventh and 11th, respectively, at Kankakee Community College. Gardner-South Wilmington’s Michael Mankowski (17:49) also advanced.
Class 1A Seneca Regional: Seneca’s Ross McCormick (18:03) finished seventh in winning an at-large berth to the sectional meet. James Miller (19:26) also qualified for the Irish.
Class 2A Crete-Monee Regional: Mitch Feehan (16:56.5) won the 3-mile race in boosting Lincoln-Way West (24) to the team crown. Fellow Warriors Kamil Stafinski (17:18.4) and Adam Fabian (17:18.8) were third and fourth, respectively. Steve Sismelich (17:21.2) was fifth in sparking Providence (64) to a second-place finish.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional: Lemont’s Lucas Heatherington (17:09) notched an at-large berth in the sectional round after finishing 35th at Kress Creek Farms in West Chicago.
Class 3A Andrew Regional: Chris Kaminski (15:26), Tommy Kolacki (15:34) and Ben Zibricky (15:36) led the pack in the 3-mile race as Lincoln-Way Central (20) cruised to the team title at Turtlehead Lake. Joliet Central (84) was second thanks in part to Raul Rosendo (15:37), who came in fourth. Dan Treasure (16:15) paced Joliet West (126), which finished fifth.
Class 3 Marist Regional: Romeoville’s Mike Samuelson (16:44) was 28th at Midlothian Meadows, his performance enabling him to qualify for the sectional round.
Class 3A Normal Community Regional: Medalist Ben Walczak (15:36) guided Lincoln-Way East (49) to second place behind Normal Community (38). Walczak’s teammate, Chris Kocur (15:47), added a fourth-place finish on the 2.95-mile course at Maxwell Park in Normal.
Girls Cross Country
Class 1A Bishop McNamara Regional: Daly Galloway (18:57), of Gardner-South Wilmington, was the medalist at Kankakee Community College. Her performance helped the Panthers (144) finish seventh in snatching the last opening to the sectional meet.
Class 1A Seneca Regional: Seneca’s Sarah Cameron (20:31) was fifth, one place better than teammate Caroline Collet (20:59) at Kankakee Community College. Their efforts keyed the Irish (65) to third place and an automatic entry to the sectional round.
Class 2A Crete-Monee Regional: Champion Joliet Catholic, runner-up Providence and third-place finisher Lincoln-Way West totaled 51 points apiece. Natalie Waters (20:03.8), of Lincoln-Way West, was the leading area individual, finishing third on the 3-mile course. The Providence duo of Rebecca Tompkins (20:20.6) and Kelly Schultz (20:23.7) rounded out the top five competitors. Lincoln-Way West’s Teagan Lyke (20:38) came in sixth, followed by the Joliet Catholic quartet of Kennedy Weigt (21:01.3), Maddie Kennedy (21:02.9), Alex Blotnik (21:07.9) and Ally Egizio (21:08.7). Bridget Gile (22:13.1) was the leader for fifth-place Morris (138), which also qualified for the sectional.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional: Taylor Campos (19:16) was 11th and Gabby Voltarel (19:24) 16th in directing Lemont (124) to fifth place at Kress Creek Farms.
Class 3A Andrew Regional: Lincoln-Way Central’s Madison Smith (19:02) was second in the 3-mile race at Turtlehead Lake. Her teammates, Taylor Martinez (19:05) and Elizabeth Venezio (19:08) were third and fourth, respectively, as the Knights (22) captured the team championship Charlotte Youell (19:11) came in fifth to lead runner-up Joliet West (61). Fifth-place Joliet Central (135) was the other local team to gain a spot in the sectional round.
Class 3A Marist Regional: Romeoville teammates Sierra Scanlan (20:37) and Samantha Pagan (22:01) secured at-large berths in the sectional round from the meet at Midlothian Meadows.
Class 3A Normal Community Regional: Medalist Mackenzie Callahan and runner-up Ashley Tutt (18:07 each) lifted Minooka (21) to the championship at Maxwell Park in Normal. Caleigh Beverly (18:23) added a fifth-place finish for the Indians in the 2.95-mile race. Kristy Dertz (18:41) was eighth in propelling Lincoln-Way East (68) to second place.
Men’s Cross Country
Great Lakes Challenge: St. Francis (66) edged Olivet Nazarene (69) to capture first place in the 37-team meet in Grand Rapids, Mich. The champion Saints were led by runner-up Dylan Reyes (24.51.25) and third-place occupant Mike Blaszczyk (24.51.53) in the 5-mile race.
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Andrew McLain (24:12) was third in the 3.1-mile race as Lewis (88) finished second to Southern Indiana (24) in the 12-team invitational. Sean Smith (25:09) added a 13th place finish for the Flyers in St. Louis.
Women’s Cross Country
Great Lakes Challenge: Hilary Halford (18:07.49) was fourth in the 3.1-mile contest in guiding St. Francis (114) to third place in the 33-team invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Amanda Farrough (21:40) finished third in on the 3.7-mile course as Lewis (82) took third out of 12 teams in St. Louis. Kristen Bonsor (21:42) tacked on a fourth-place showing for the Flyers.
St. Francis 2, Judson 1: Liceth Robles and Kaley Marcinak netted goals for visiting St. Francis (10-5, 5-3) in the CCAC.
CCAC Crossover Tournament: Mallory Frankovich put up 21 kills and 23 digs in helping St. Francis (29-9, 15-2) beat Trinity International 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 and Roosevelt 25-11, 25-20, 17-25, 25-14. Danielle Conrad chipped in 41 assists for the Saints and Breanne Shaw had 29 digs in the contests at Robert Morris.
GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament: Kim Vertin totaled 18 kills and 27 digs to lead Lewis (16-7), which defeated Hillsdale 25-13, 25-18, 25-13 and lost to Ferris State 25-14, 25-21, 25-18 in Aurora. Leigh Barea tacked on 61 assists for the Flyers in the invitational matching teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic and Great Lakes Valley conferences.
