Boys Cross Country
Class 1A Lisle Sectional: Joliet Catholic (235 points) finished seventh at Lisle Community Park. Latin (46) won the team title, while Mooseheart produced the medalist in Wal Khat (16 minutes, 41 seconds).
Class 1A Oregon Sectional: Seneca’s Ross McCormick (16:34) qualified for the state meet on an individual basis. Byron’s T.J. Pitcock (16:01) paced all runners, while Winnebago (82) captured the team crown at Oregon Park West.
Class 2A Normal West Sectional: Lincoln-Way West (215) was ninth and Providence (247) finished 11th at Maxwell Park in Normal. Metamora (78) garnered team title and Alleman’s Zach Hird (14:40.8) the individual championship.
Class 3A Edwardsville Sectional: Chris Kaminski (16:12) was fifth on the 3.1-mile course as Lincoln-Way Central (74) finished second to O’Fallon (33) at Southern Illinois. Salvador Lazaro (16:13) finished sixth to lead Joliet Central (159), which secured the fifth and final opening to the state meet. Joliet West’s Dan Treasure (16:13) and Minooka’s Gabe Ceballos (16:33) won at-large berths on the state level.
Girls Cross Country
Class 1A Lisle Sectional: Daly Galloway (19:40), of Gardner-South Wilmington, finished second in earning an at-large berth to the state meet. Latin (35) captured first place behind medalist Victoria Bianco (19:20).
Class 1A Oregon Sectional: Seneca (211) was eighth in the meet won by Wethersfield (83). Byron’s Kelsey Hildreth (18:29) led all individuals at Oregon Park West.
Class 2A Normal West Sectional: Providence (157) was fifth in grabbing the last spot to the state meet. Clare O’Donnell (18:44) was the leading runner for the Celtics, finishing 13th in the 3-mile race at Maxwell Park in Normal. Rebecca Tompkins (18:49) and Kelly Schultz (18:50) were 16th and 18th, respectively, for Providence. Lincoln-Way West teammates Natalie Waters (18:29) and Teagan Lyke (18:45) earned individual berths on the state level.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Sectional: Lemont’s Taylor Campos (19:22) advanced to the state meet on an individual basis. Her performance helped the Indians (156) finish eighth at Kress Creek Farms in West Chicago. Mailin Struck (17:27) won the 3.06-mile race, while Yorkville (50) claimed the team championship.
Class 3A Edwardsville Sectional: Runner-up Ashley Tutt (18:54) steered Minooka (39) to the team title. Third-place Lincoln-Way Central (101) and No. 5 Lincoln-Way East (163) also qualified for the state meet. Mackenzie Callahan (19:04) added a sixth-place finish for the champion Indians, Caleigh Callahan (19:05) was seventh and Morgan Crouch (19:16) ninth. The next three spots were filled by Lincoln-Way Central’s Juliana Sipich (19:17) and Lincoln-Way East teammates Alyssa Vogt (19:21) and Kristy Dertz (19:28). Charlotte Youell (19:52), of Joliet West, garnered an at-large berth on the state level.
SouthWest Suburban Red Meet: Kim Bernhard won the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.02) and 200 freestyle (1:57.86) in guiding Lincoln-Way Central (228) to a third-place finish behind Lincoln-Way North (300) and Andrew (252).
Lewis 82, Loyola 70: Julian Lewis scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead visiting Lewis in exhibition play. Ryan Jackson added 22 points for the Flyers and David Niggins had 12.
Trinity International 1, St. Francis 0: Tyler Wilcox scored in the 82nd minute to lead visiting Trinity International (3-10-3, 2-7-1) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. James Thorpe made seven saves for St. Francis (2-12, 1-8).
Women’s Cross Country
NJCAA Region IV Championship: Kirsten Kleman (21:50) was second in leading Joliet Junior College (33) to a runner-up finish behind Harper College (23) in the Division I meet in Channahon.
Trinity International 2, St. Francis 0: Samantha Yasatan’s two goals steered visiting Trinity International (10-5-2, 5-3-2) in the CCAC. Amanda Coleman stopped five shots for St. Francis (11-6, 6-4).
