JOLIET — “The Hulk” may not be the main reason No Mercy went unbeaten en route to the Women’s championship in the Joliet Park District City Softball Tournament, but it contributed.
“The Hulk is even written on my glove,” Tristen Wittke said after pitching No Mercy to a 5-2 victory over Hollywood in Friday night’s title game at the Inwood Complex.
“Her husband did it,” she added, nodding toward her sister, No Mercy manager Tracy Nosal.
Wittke made a few good plays with “The Hulk,” and the rest of the defense behind her showed no mercy, either.
“We hit a lot of balls hard, but they are so good and quick that you have to credit their defense,” said Hollywood manager Myra Minuskin, whose team beat Stillwell’s Angels 10-2 in the semifinals. “A lot of them would have been hits against other teams.”
No Mercy, which received a triple from Tracy Kwasny, scored twice in the first and twice in the fourth off Diane Duggins to take a 4-0 lead, and Wittke controlled the game the rest of the way.
“My sister’s usually that good,” Nosal said with a smile.
No Mercy also won the title last year but had to win twice in the finals to get the job done. This time, “The Hulk” helped make it a bit easier.
