The Plainfield East girls golf team never had beaten a Southwest Prairie Conference opponent. Until Tuesday.
Finishing in the dark, Plainfield East came away with a 203-211 SPC dual win over Plainfield Central on the Red Course at the Links at Carillon.
The Bengals had lost 11 straight league duals heading into the match.
“We shot some good scores and the reason we won today were the scores from Kelsey (Brown) and Bekka (Pittman),” Plainfield East coach Paul Raspolich said.
Anna Gahafer’s 47 was good enough to earn medalist honors. Pittman shot a 50, Brown fired a 52 and Jasmine Wissmiller came in with a 54.
“We are starting to put together some consistent scores from some girls,” Raspolich said.
Kira Mendrick’s 50 was the low score for the Wildcats.
Plainfield North’s boys opened the SPC season with a 165-168 win over Plainfield East Tuesday at Carillon.
Plainfield North’s Greg Rash and Plainfield East’s Kevin Pikul and Peter Kaufman each carded 39s to share medalist honors. Taylor Hollingshaus shot a 41 for North, Jack Rante posted a 42 and Caleb Kissel and Jason Tipton each came in with a 43.
“Greg Rash and Taylor Hollingshaus, who are both freshmen, came out of the gate running and were very impressive,” Plainfield North coach Brad Shinovich said. “Those two young guys, obviously, are coming along. This is a very impressive start for them.”
