Trubich is a senior outside hitter in her fourth season on the Wildcats varsity.
You recently beat Plainfield North and South in battles against district schools. How big was that?
It was amazing. We hadn’t beaten North since my freshman year. So to come back and beat them felt really good.
You played at the Wheaton-Warrenville South Classic last week. How was that?
We went 2-3 and finished 12th out of 24 teams. But it was one of the hardest tournaments we’ll be in. We played a lot of tough teams and it was good for us.
You have been a varsity player for the Wildcats all four years. What has been your best memory as a player so far?
Erin Hyland and I have been on varsity all four years. It was probably beating Lockport (25-22, 25-22) in the regional freshman year. My sister, Megan, was a senior on the team and both of my parents went to Lockport. Then we took Naperville North to three in the regional title match. That was great because we were such underdogs in both.
Have you made a college choice yet?
No. I’m looking at a couple of schools, but I’m still undecided. But it will probably be a Division II or an NAIA school.
You come back to Plainfield Central 10 years from now. what’s the first story you tell about your coach, Jessica Clark?
She’s inspirational. She’s always coming up with mental things. To her it’s about more than just volleyball and she’s always looking out for us.
Does anyone on the team have a talent that no one knows about?
Our senior libero, Dana Peterson, is a really good singer. She’s going to sing the national anthem on Senior Night.
What music do you listen to?
It depends on my mood. I like everything, but before a match I want to hear something to pump me up.
As told to Randy Whalen
